Scholars to Discuss Algerian Revolution and Revolutionaries

A national colloquium titled "Revolution and Revolutionaries in Algeria Across Ages" is set to take place on December 10, offering a unique opportunity for researchers and historians. Organized by the Laboratory of History, Civilization, and Applied Geography in coordination with the Department of History and Geography at the Higher National School of Professors in Bouzareah, this scientific event aims to rigorously analyze Algeria's extensive revolutionary record and its long history of popular resistance against all forms of domination.

The colloquium’s vision emphasizes that revolution is not merely a fleeting moment but a continuous journey rooted in Algeria’s identity as a land of revolution and revolutionaries. It will highlight revolution as a symbol of freedom, a source of hope for oppressed peoples, and a formidable force against oppressors and occupiers. The event asserts that revolution signifies the beginning of change, a sincere expression of patriotism, and a definitive rejection of subservience and dependency. Discussions will explore the evolution of revolutionary concepts and resistance tools across different eras in Algeria, investigating how Algerian revolutionaries have consistently preserved state sovereignty and protected national identity in the face of various historical challenges, from ancient roots to the triumphant November 1954 Revolution.

The scientific program is structured around five strategic axes, designed to deconstruct revolutionary thought and its evolving meanings. These axes cover a critical reading of revolution terminology, historical resistance in ancient periods, forms of resistance during the medieval and Ottoman eras, popular resistance against French occupation, and an in-depth study of the November 1954 Revolution, including its causes, dimensions, and key figures. Through these discussions, the colloquium seeks to achieve significant national and academic objectives, primarily to highlight the symbolic value of martyrs and revolutionaries as guardians of the state and its borders. It also aims to instill the values of the November Revolution and popular resistances in students and researchers, thereby enhancing their historical awareness and fostering robust scientific research that connects the past with the present to safeguard national sovereignty and identity.
