Saidal Director-General Inspects Médéa Antibiotics Plant Progress

Younes Bouarara, the Director-General of Saidal Group, undertook an inspection visit to Harbil in the Médéa wilaya on Monday, August 24, 2026. The purpose of this visit was to monitor the construction progress of a new factory dedicated to producing raw materials for antibiotics. This initiative aligns with the directives issued by Dr. Ouacim Kouidri, the Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, underscoring a commitment to advancing critical national projects.

The establishment of this strategic facility is central to Algeria's efforts to enhance its national pharmaceutical sovereignty and significantly reduce the country's reliance on imported pharmaceutical products, particularly antibiotics. Algeria currently imports antibiotics valued at 75.4 billion Algerian Dinars annually. The project is also a key component of the Saidal Group's broader strategy to expand its production capacities, transitioning from primarily meeting domestic market needs to strengthening its presence in international markets.

Upon its operational launch, the new unit is anticipated to substantially bolster Algeria's domestic production capabilities for antibiotics and their essential raw materials. This development is expected to solidify the Saidal Group's role as a strategic industrial leader within the pharmaceutical sector and aims to elevate the group's turnover to approximately one billion US dollars. The inspection highlights Saidal Group's dedication to accelerating the completion of its strategic ventures and ensuring their effective implementation on the ground, in harmony with national objectives to cultivate a robust local pharmaceutical industry, lessen foreign dependency, and guarantee Algeria's health and pharmaceutical security.
