Taranto 2026: Algerian Delegation Secures 13 Mediterranean Games Medals

Algeria's delegation at the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026 has secured a total of 13 medals, including one gold, two silver, and ten bronze, marking a significant performance since the competition's commencement. The national contingent, comprising over 200 athletes competing across approximately 20 disciplines, has shown particular strength in combat sports and individual events, contributing substantially to the country's medal tally.

The gold medal was clinched by Abdelkarim Fergat in the 60 kg Greco-Roman wrestling category, initiating Algeria's top-tier success. Further achievements in wrestling include silver from Fayçal Benfredj (67 kg) and bronze medals for Bachir Sid Azara (87 kg) and Fadi Rouabah (97 kg), alongside two female wrestlers. Boxing also contributed with Fatiha Mansouri earning a silver, complemented by bronze medals from Djouher Bennane and Amine Zanaz. Additional bronze medals were secured by Nadhir Harbi in taekwondo (-58 kg), Koceila and Tanina Mammeri in badminton mixed doubles, and Nor El Houda Maïdi in sport-boules (Raffa).

Beyond individual and combat sport successes, the national U21 football team has advanced to the final four of the tournament, showcasing broader athletic capability. With numerous events still scheduled, particularly in athletics and various martial arts, the Algerian delegation's medal count remains open, indicating potential for further achievements before the conclusion of the Games.
