Algeria has achieved ‘remarkable progress’ in electronic payments, driven by sweeping digital transformation measures implemented by public authorities in recent years, Finance Minister Abderrakim Boulazard told dzwatch.
Speaking during a public session at the Council of the Nation, the minister highlighted advances in national payment system security standards, aimed at strengthening financial inclusion and streamlining financial services.
Boulazard revealed that Algeria recorded 22 million payment cards as of March, including 18 million issued by Algerie Poste, while ATMs reached 4,713 units processing 235 million transactions.
The minister also confirmed that electronic payment terminals surged to 104,000 devices by end of March, up from 78,000 the previous year, recording over 10 million transactions worth approximately 55 billion DZD by end of 2025.
Boulazard stressed the importance of citizen awareness campaigns and announced a new mechanism to facilitate settlement of outstanding payments to economic operators, set to be activated before year’s end.
