USM Alger Crowned African Confederation Cup Champions After Thrilling Penalty Shootout

USM Alger claimed the African Confederation Cup title on Saturday evening after a breathtaking penalty shootout victory over Egyptian side Zamalek, winning 8-7 in the decisive tie at Cairo International Stadium.

Coach Lamine Ndiaye’s men did not enter the match under ideal circumstances, conceding an early goal from Palestinian player Adi Dabbagh via a penalty in the fifth minute, before leveling the aggregate score to force a shootout.

The Algerian side gradually regained their composure, dominating possession and creating clear-cut chances through sharp short passing combinations, though finishing remained an issue in crucial moments.

The pattern continued into the second half as Zamalek dropped deep and relied on counter-attacks, while USM Alger maintained relentless offensive pressure — particularly through winger Khaldi, who squandered several golden opportunities.

In a marathon penalty shootout, every kick was converted by both sides except one missed by Zamalek’s Shahata, leaving USM Alger’s Likunza to score the eighth and final kick to seal a historic continental title for the Algiers club.
