Algeria Reaffirms Commitment to International Police Cooperation at UN Summit

Algeria’s Director General of National Security, Ali Badaoui, took part in the fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit, which concluded on Friday in New York, United States, according to a statement issued by the General Directorate of National Security.
Badaoui headed the Algerian delegation participating in the summit. The delegation included the Chief of Staff of the Algerian National Gendarmerie, Major General Rafik Bouakkaz, as well as senior officials from the National Security services.
The participation came as part of Algeria’s efforts to strengthen international police cooperation and address cross-border security challenges.
During the opening session of the summit, held from July 6 to 10, the Algerian Director General of National Security reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to enhancing international security cooperation in order to face regional and global threats. His address took place in the presence of Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Amar Bendjama.
Badaoui also reviewed Algeria’s efforts to support the capacities of African police forces through training programs in several key areas. These include the fight against organized crime, cybercrime, illicit drug trafficking, forensic science and crisis management.
He also welcomed the United Nations initiative related to the training session hosted by Algeria last May for law enforcement agencies, including the police and the National Gendarmerie. The session focused on the role of United Nations missions in maintaining security and peace.
On the sidelines of the summit, Badaoui and the accompanying delegation held several bilateral meetings with international officials and police leaders.
These meetings focused on strengthening coordination and cooperation in training, capacity-building and the development of police skills. They also addressed ways to support the participation of Algerian police and National Gendarmerie personnel in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
