Allo Shorta App Enhances Public Safety Reporting

The Algerian police have officially launched a new smartphone application, “Allo Shorta” (Hello Police), designed to enhance public safety through immediate citizen reporting. This innovative tool allows individuals to send real-time alerts, including geographical coordinates, photos, or videos of crimes and incidents, directly to the General Command's data center. The application transforms the smartphone into a primary witness, facilitating rapid intervention by security services.
Since its launch, the “Allo Shorta” application has seen significant adoption, with over 50,000 downloads. It seamlessly integrates with the police's existing communication channels, which include emergency fixed lines, a dedicated website, and official social media pages on platforms like Facebook and Twitter. This multi-channel approach underscores the Algerian police's emphasis on community monitoring, recognizing citizens as a fundamental component of the national security framework and encouraging a culture of continuous reporting.
This initiative is part of a broader, proactive strategy by Algeria to combat criminal activities, particularly the phenomenon of neighborhood gangs, which President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has prioritized. In line with this, the Algerian Minister of Interior has overseen the establishment of a national committee and discussed a comprehensive national strategy for the prevention and combating of such gangs. The official discourse encourages leveraging digital platforms to promote awareness campaigns, foster preventive culture, and cultivate a discourse among youth that discourages violent behaviors, highlighting the collective responsibility of various societal institutions in maintaining social order.
