Housing Ministry to Deliver 385 New Schools by End of 2026

Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and the City, announced the commitment to deliver 385 new educational facilities across all three educational levels before the end of 2026. This significant initiative is designed to strengthen the national educational system and enhance schooling conditions for students. The announcement was made during a national meeting on Monday, August 17, 2026, where the minister evaluated the sector's programs.

These 385 facilities include 207 primary schools, 122 middle schools, and 56 secondary schools, representing a total investment of 115 billion Algerian Dinars. Minister Belaribi detailed that the majority of these structures are scheduled for delivery in September of the current year, with the remaining facilities to be completed before the year's end. As of the meeting, 115 out of 270 facilities planned for September had already been received.

The national meeting, which gathered central administration executives and sector directors from 69 provinces, focused on assessing the sector's performance during the first half of 2026 and preparing for the 2026-2027 academic year. During the session, Minister Belaribi conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to all sector personnel, commending their efforts and achievements. The meeting also reviewed the distribution of 179,168 housing units of various types across the country, which occurred in conjunction with the 64th anniversary of Independence Day on July 5, 2026.
