Ouest-France Promotes Algeria as New Tourist Destination

Ouest-France, recognized as the largest-circulation French newspaper, recently featured Algeria as a compelling destination for French travelers. In an article published on August 17, the publication presented Algeria to its readership, detailing essential information for those planning to explore the country.

The comprehensive article enumerated five key considerations for visitors, including details on visa applications. Most foreign nationals, including French citizens, are advised to obtain a visa prior to travel, with costs ranging from 110 to 130 euros and processing times between two and ten working days. However, tourists visiting the southern regions through an Algerian Ministry of Tourism-approved agency may receive an embarkation authorization and obtain their visa upon arrival. The report also offered guidance on optimal travel periods, suggesting October to April for the south, June or September for Mediterranean beaches, and spring or autumn for mountainous areas like the Djurdjura or Aurès ranges, aligning with varied tourist preferences and potentially more affordable airfare.

Additionally, Ouest-France provided practical advice regarding currency, noting that most payments in Algeria are cash-based, with international hotels and restaurants being exceptions. Visitors are also advised to declare cash sums exceeding 5,000 euros upon entry. The newspaper outlined respectful dress codes, recommending that women cover their shoulders and wear trousers or long skirts, and cover their heads in places of worship, while men should wear bottoms that extend below the knee. Tourists are also cautioned against photographing military or police installations and personnel and are encouraged to seek permission before photographing individuals. This detailed coverage by a major French media outlet underscores a broader trend of increasing international interest from tour operators and media in Algeria as a significant new destination.
