Fidel Castro’s Legacy Shapes Enduring Algeria-Cuba Bonds

The Cuban Ambassador to Algeria, Hector Igarza Cabrera, affirmed the deep and extensive nature of relations between Cuba and Algeria, noting they transcend traditional diplomatic interactions. In an interview, Ambassador Cabrera highlighted that the bond between the two nations serves as a powerful model of solidarity. He further underscored a shared commitment to defending the principle of national sovereignty, linking this enduring connection to their respective revolutionary experiences.

Ambassador Cabrera also referenced the historical significance of these ties, particularly through the figure of Fidel Castro. He noted that Castro held a special regard for Algeria, demonstrating this through multiple visits and a keen interest in fostering bilateral relations across political, medical, and military domains. Castro, described as a "soldier of ideas" by the Ambassador, continues to represent principles such as national sovereignty, independence, and resistance to external hegemony.

This long-standing solidarity is evident in the continued presence of Cuban medical professionals working in Algeria today, a tradition that began decades ago. The Ambassador emphasized that these medical missions exemplify the unique solidarity between two states with distinct revolutionary paths, yet united in their defense of national sovereignty. This ongoing collaboration reinforces the depth and positive impact of the relationship on both nations.
