Guy Gilles’ ‘Les Amants de la mer’ Set for Blu-ray Release

'Les Amants de la mer,' the debut feature film by Algerian-born director Guy Gilles, is scheduled for release on Blu-ray on December 2, 2026. This significant release brings renewed attention to the work of a filmmaker recognized for his unique poetic and introspective style. The film, completed in 1963 with the support of Jean-Pierre Melville, earned the Critics' Prize at the Locarno International Film Festival.

Gilles, described as a "quiet heresy of the New Wave" and a "filmmaker of poetry and memory," explored themes of vanishing youth and ephemeral love throughout his career. His works, including 'Au Pan Coupé' (1967), which Marguerite Duras praised as "something never before attempted in cinema," along with 'The Land's Sparkle' (1969) and 'Repeated Absence' (1972), consistently delved into memory, absence, love, and solitude.
