The Algerian men's national beach volleyball team successfully secured its place in the quarterfinals of the African Championship 2026. This achievement came after a 2-1 victory over Benin on Friday, during matches held in Alexandria, Egypt. The Algerian duo, comprising Kalouche and Dekkich, demonstrated strong performance, winning the first set 21-16, conceding the second 20-22, and ultimately dominating the decisive third set with a score of 15-7 to clinch the match.
This quarterfinal qualification was built upon a commendable performance in the first round, where the Algerian men's team topped their group. They recorded three consecutive victories, overcoming Nigeria 2-1, defeating Togo 2-0, and securing another 2-1 win against Angola to advance confidently from their group stage.
In parallel, the Algerian women's national beach volleyball team also advanced to the quarterfinals of the same prestigious African Championship. Their qualification was sealed after a compelling 2-1 triumph over Senegal, with their match also taking place on Friday in Alexandria, Egypt. The championship is a significant continental event, featuring 28 participating nations in both men's and women's categories.
This tournament is especially critical as the eventual champion will earn a direct qualification spot for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Algeria's robust participation in this high-level continental competition provides a valuable opportunity for the national beach volleyball program to compete against seasoned teams and those aspiring for their first Olympic qualification, showcasing the country's athletic capabilities on an international stage.
