Green Hydrogen Focus for German Delegation in Algeria

The Algerian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Algérie) announced that a German economic mission focused on green hydrogen will arrive in Algiers on September 21. This mission, supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economics, will bring together several German companies specializing in various segments of the hydrogen value chain. Its primary objective is to explore new opportunities for cooperation with Algerian operators and examine business prospects, industrial projects, and potential partnerships within the Algerian market.
The discussions in Algiers are expected to cover a broad range of technologies and services essential for establishing an integrated industrial sector for green hydrogen. Participating German companies will address areas such as electrolysis, water treatment and desalination, hydrogen storage and compression technologies, industrial equipment, and engineering solutions. Furthermore, the mission will address critical issues related to infrastructure development, including the conversion of existing pipelines, suitable materials for hydrogen transport, certification, feasibility studies, and project engineering.
German interest in Algeria is part of Europe's broader strategy to diversify energy sources and develop new supply chains for renewable hydrogen. Algeria's advantageous geographical position, substantial solar resources, and extensive experience in the energy sector are recognized assets that can strengthen its role in future energy exchanges between North Africa and Europe. The mission also aligns with the SoutH2 project, which envisions a hydrogen transport corridor connecting North Africa with Europe, involving Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Austria, and Germany.
For Algeria, the development of a national green hydrogen sector represents a significant energy, industrial, and economic endeavor. This initiative is expected to foster new activities in engineering, equipment, industrial services, and infrastructure, while also opening additional export opportunities. The September 21 meeting is poised to advance collaboration between Algerian and German enterprises, facilitating the identification of joint projects, the transfer of expertise and technologies, and the development of skilled professionals to support this burgeoning sector in Algeria.
