Higher Council Seeks Archaeology Contributions for Encyclopedia

The Higher Council for the Arabic Language, through the scientific committee of the "Algerian Encyclopedia" series, has initiated a national call for contributions from researchers, academics, and archaeology specialists. This extensive appeal aims to gather expertise for the preparation of the "Archaeology Volume," with submissions accepted until October 15, 2026. The initiative underscores the importance of collective efforts to meticulously document Algeria's civilization heritage and to establish a significant intellectual record that highlights the depth of the nation's historical identity.

The primary objective of this undertaking is to thoroughly document Algeria's archaeological heritage. This involves identifying and cataloging archaeological sites, architectural monuments, and ancient cities, while also providing precise scientific data. The project seeks to connect this archaeological information with its environmental and historical contexts, thereby emphasizing the profound historical roots of Algerian national identity. The forthcoming "Archaeology Volume" is envisioned as a comprehensive reference work that will serve current and future generations.

The structural framework for the Archaeology Volume encompasses a general introduction, a definition of archaeology, and an overview of the evolution of archaeological research within Algeria. It also includes discussions on traditional and structural schools and methodologies, alongside a chronological division covering prehistoric, protohistoric, ancient, Islamic, and contemporary periods. Contributions are invited across various axes, including ancient environments and sites, funerary monuments, social organizations, Numidian, Roman, Vandal, and Byzantine sites, as well as Islamic archaeological sites, architecture, and arts. Modern techniques such as remote sensing, GIS, and artificial intelligence applications in archaeological research, along with the restoration and preservation of sites, are also key areas for engagement. All submitted research will undergo scientific arbitration by a specialized committee, with contributors required to adhere to academic methodology and a clear, concise linguistic style.
