Gendarmerie Nationale Receives Hundreds of Daily Road Safety Reports

Citizen reports have emerged as a highly effective mechanism for Algerian security services in their efforts to combat various forms of criminality, including issues related to road safety. This community involvement, particularly through the reporting of reckless drivers and dangerous behaviors, plays a crucial role in enhancing public safety. The Gendarmerie Nationale, for instance, records an average of 350 reports pertaining to road infractions daily. Commander Rachida Aib, head of the information and communication office at the Gendarmerie Nationale's road information and coordination center, highlighted a notable increase in these reports, indicating 200 to 250 daily reports via the Tariki platform, supplemented by 100 to 150 calls to the green number 1055. This growing interaction reflects increased citizen awareness regarding their role in risk prevention and protecting their safety and environment.
These reports frequently detail infractions related to passenger and goods transport, dangerous maneuvers, excessive speeding, and the use of mobile phones while driving, particularly among professional drivers of vehicles and and buses. Beyond road-specific issues, these channels also facilitate general public order and security reports. To ensure comprehensive coverage, security services have established various communication channels, including green numbers 1548 for National Security and 1055 for the Gendarmerie Nationale, alongside the digital platform Tariki. This diversification of communication methods ensures that citizen concerns and reports are received and addressed with the necessary speed and efficiency.
The Gendarmerie Nationale processes these received reports through direct coordination with operational units on the ground, enabling swift action and effective intervention. The pace of reporting typically increases during periods of high traffic density and citizen movement, such as weekends, peak hours, summer seasons, holidays, and festive occasions. To further embed reporting as a preventative behavior and a shared responsibility between citizens and security institutions, the Gendarmerie Nationale actively organizes awareness campaigns. These initiatives include field activities and open days, fostering direct engagement with citizens, in addition to utilizing social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for their Tariki page.
