Grand Mosque Honors Quran Memorization Winners at Mawlid Celebration

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib, acting on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, recently oversaw the commemoration of Mawlid Nabawi at the Grand Mosque of Algiers. The ceremony, held in a distinguished spiritual atmosphere following the Maghrib prayer, was attended by numerous government members, senior state officials, representatives from the religious affairs sector, and members of the accredited diplomatic corps. Grand Mosque Dean Mohamed El Mamoun El Kacimi El Hassani was also present during the auspicious occasion.

The commemorative program began with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Sheikh Mohamed Irshad Morabbi, followed by various religious segments. These segments explored the noble biography and characteristics of the Prophet, as well as the sublime values promoted by Islam. A religious lesson, titled “Love in the Prophetic Guidance and its Contemporary Applications,” was delivered by Dr. Nadir Hamadou, a member of the Ministerial Fatwa Committee, which discussed the significance of love for the Prophet, its manifestations in a Muslim’s life, and the importance of following his guidance in addressing contemporary challenges. The religious proceedings concluded with invocations and prophetic praises presented by students from the Belkaidia Zawiya, reflecting the profound spiritual significance of the event for Algerians.

A central part of the ceremony involved honoring male and female laureates from various Quran memorization competitions, underscoring the state’s dedication to preserving and promoting religious and cultural heritage. This included recognizing the top three winners of the Mawlid Nabawi Quran memorization and recitation competition: Mouad Abderrahmane Abboud, Youcef Talbi, and Ayoub Seny. Additionally, several Algerian winners of international Quran competitions were celebrated for their achievements, such as Mohamed Salaheddine Rammal, who secured first place in the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Competition for African countries, and Jumana Sharabatia and Safaa Iman Ben Yahya, both first-place winners in different branches of the King Abdulaziz International Competition in Saudi Arabia. Zakaria Fattal was also honored for achieving second place in a branch of the same international contest, collectively highlighting Algeria’s success in fostering Quranic scholarship.
