President Goïta Accepts Tebboune’s Invitation, Ending Diplomatic Rift

A diplomatic crisis between Algeria and Mali has been definitively resolved following an invitation from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to his Malian counterpart, General Assimi Goïta. Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga confirmed President Goïta's acceptance of the invitation during a recent visit to Algeria, where he conveyed a message of gratitude from President Goïta to President Tebboune. This visit by Prime Minister Maïga, leading a significant delegation, marks the first by a high-ranking Malian official since the initial steps towards de-escalation between the two nations.

The renewed bilateral relations are set to focus on strengthening cooperation across various shared interests. Discussions between the two countries will center on rebuilding a robust relationship founded on direct dialogue, consultation, and mutual cooperation, while upholding principles of reciprocal respect, trust, non-interference in internal affairs, and national sovereignty. Both nations are committed to working together to transform the Sahel region into an area of peace, free from all forms of colonialism and external domination.

This resolution follows a period of diplomatic tension lasting over a year. Early steps towards normalization included the return of ambassadors and the reciprocal reopening of airspace for flights between the two countries.
