South Korea Hosts Hackathon with Algerian Innovators

Algerian planners, developers, and designers were among approximately 250 participants from various countries, including the United States, Mongolia, India, and the Philippines, at the 2026 Junction X Korea Hackathon. The international technology event, hosted by Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and organized by Pohang University of Science and Technology, took place from October 21 to 23 at the university's indoor gymnasium in South Korea. The hackathon aimed to foster new solutions by challenging participants to look beyond conventional frameworks and address the essence of problems through technology.

Operating under the slogan 'Hack our origin, start anew from the essence,' the event provided a platform for global talent and corporate technological capabilities to converge. Leading artificial intelligence companies, such as Microsoft Korea, Upstage, Furiosa AI, and Lablup, participated by presenting challenges across different tracks. A central focus of the competition was to utilize public data to identify and resolve regional issues facing Gyeongsangbuk-do, encouraging the development of AI-based services and solutions for sectors like population, healthcare, welfare, and disaster management.

Participants showcased their creations through on-site presentations and judging, which determined the rankings for each track. The 'Demo Day Care' team ultimately secured the final championship for their "Reproducible Multi-Agent Execution Information Checking System." The presence of Algerian innovators at such a prominent international technological gathering highlights the nation's engagement in global innovation initiatives and its commitment to fostering talent in advanced fields.
