Tissemsilt Doubles Cereal Output to 516,400 Quintals

Tissemsilt wilaya recorded a cereal production of 516,400 quintals this season, marking a significant increase from the 196,000 quintals harvested in the previous season. This output represents more than double the production of the preceding year. The Directorate of Agricultural Services (DSA) of the wilaya provided these figures, noting that the harvest encompassed various cereal varieties collected at storage centers associated with the local Cereal and Dry Vegetable Cooperative (CCLS).

The substantial rise in cereal production is primarily attributed to significant rainfall experienced in the region. Cultivation covered an area exceeding 45,000 hectares. Durum wheat constituted the largest portion of the collected quantities, totaling 413,000 quintals, followed by barley with over 94,491 quintals and soft wheat at 8,333 quintals. Oats also contributed nearly 500 quintals to the overall yield. Fatiha Baghda, Head of the Agricultural Production and Support Service, highlighted the role of these climatic conditions in the successful season.

The harvest and threshing campaign was executed under favorable organizational and operational conditions, a result of mobilizing necessary resources and the coordinated efforts of various relevant services and organizations. This included the active participation of farmers and professionals across the sector within the wilaya. Furthermore, storage capabilities for the harvests were significantly enhanced this year with the commissioning of six new local cereal storage centers. Each of these facilities has a capacity of 50,000 quintals, contributing to strengthened storage capacities, improved preservation conditions under modern and secure technical standards, and brought storage infrastructure closer to agricultural producers.
