Brighton Secures Algerian Defender Jaouen Madjam from Young Boys

Brighton & Hove Albion has officially announced the signing of Algerian left-back Jaouen Madjam. The defender joins the English Premier League club from Swiss side Young Boys in a transfer valued at €12 million plus add-ons. This move marks a notable step for the Algerian athlete into one of Europe's top football leagues, showcasing the continued success of Algerian talent in the sport.

Madjam's professional journey includes a significant event in 2023 when he was released by Ligue 1 side Nantes. The French club reportedly requested him and other Muslim players to refrain from participating in Ramadan due to concerns about its potential impact on performance. Madjam maintained his beliefs and refused the request, leading to his departure from the club, a testament to his personal integrity.

Described as a sturdy and aggressive full-back, Madjam is known for his strong slide tackling, forward bursts, and effective final ball and crossing abilities. His style as an overlapping left-back is expected to complement Brighton's system. The club has a history of successful signings of this nature, suggesting a positive outlook for the Algerian talent at the Premier League level.
