Algerian badminton national team members Kacem Maameri and Sabri Medel have advanced to the doubles final at the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026. Their qualification for the championship match presents Algeria with an opportunity to contend for a gold medal in the ongoing multi-sport event.
The Algerian duo secured their final berth by defeating the French pair Thibault Gardon and Tom Lalot-Triscart in the semi-finals. Maameri and Medel claimed a decisive 2-0 victory, winning both sets with a score of 21-17, thereby guaranteeing their place in the concluding stage of the badminton competition.
In the upcoming final, the Algerian representatives will face the Turkish duo Burga Aktas and Emre Sonmez, who also advanced by overcoming their Slovenian opponents Miha Ivancic and Tad Gjelenc in their semi-final match, likewise with a 2-0 result.
