Minister of Fisheries Outlines Opportunities for Youth in Aquaculture

In a significant move to empower the youth and promote sustainable fishing, Ahmed Badani, the Algerian Minister of Fisheries and Fishery Products, emphasized the sector’s commitment to providing substantial opportunities for young entrepreneurs,Algerian Fisheries Sector Development.

Addressing an audience alongside various ministers, Badani highlighted the collaborative efforts between the sectors of higher education, scientific research, and fisheries to understand aquatic biological resources better and increase production through rational and sustainable exploitation.

According to Minister Badani, the fisheries sector is dedicated to several goals. These include establishing a policy for the sustainable and rational use of fishery products, conserving marine biological wealth, and enhancing aquaculture in both freshwater and marine environments. Furthermore, the sector aims to develop related activities and present innovative research solutions across different value chains in maritime fishing and aquaculture, based on market needs.

One of the critical objectives of the fisheries sector, as stated by the minister, is to reduce imports of fishery products and the raw materials and inputs associated with developing aquaculture, particularly in producing fish feed for both marine and inland species and domestic production of juvenile marine fish.

Badani also detailed the fisheries sector’s significant contributions to the research program in food security. These contributions focus on several areas, including the dynamics of maritime fishing ecosystems, the development of marine and inland aquaculture, water resource conservation, management and quality of water resources, and the production and health of marine and inland animal and plant species, with an emphasis on the interaction between the environment and biological resources.
