The President of Slovenia’s National Assembly, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, affirmed that Algeria and Slovenia are aligned in their pursuit of shared values and mutual support as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.

Following her meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Zupančič emphasized the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations, underscoring their common ideals of respect and solidarity. She expressed her gratitude for Algeria’s recognition of the shared history and values that bind the two countries.

On the international stage, Zupančič highlighted the robust cooperation between Algeria and Slovenia, particularly following their recent election as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. She noted that both nations are committed to fighting for the same values and supporting each other in the UN’s global forums.

“We must remain firm and strong in our fight for respect of international law and be the voice for the oppressed who cannot defend themselves,” she stated, with particular reference to the ongoing crises in the Middle East, which have been unfolding for nearly a year.

Zupančič also emphasized Slovenia’s recognition of Palestinian statehood and sovereignty, calling it the “right thing to do.” She stressed that both Algeria and Slovenia would continue working closely on all international issues, striving to have a strong, united voice in promoting peace across the globe.

In a broader context, Zupančič expressed deep regret over the ongoing “killing and extermination of children in the continuing war in Gaza,” lamenting that this represents a tragic loss for humanity and the destruction of our future.
