A recent report from Morocco’s High Commission for Planning has revealed that a staggering 82.5% of the country’s population is living on the edge of poverty. The economic situation is further exacerbated by an alarming unemployment rate of 48%, according to data from the Moroccan Central Bank.

Official Moroccan and international reports indicate that over 200,000 jobs were lost in 2023 alone. Thousands of Moroccan institutions are also grappling with insurmountable debt, pushing many to the brink of bankruptcy.

Morocco’s national debt has reached a critical $100 billion, leaving the country’s economy heavily reliant on foreign economic institutions and creditors.
