“Harry Potter” Star Maggie Smith Passes Away at 89

Renowned British actress and “Harry Potter” star Maggie Smith passed away today at the age of 89. According to a report from the BBC, citing her family, “Maggie passed away peacefully in the hospital in the early hours of Friday, September 27. She spent her final day surrounded by friends and family.”

Born on December 28, 1934, Smith became one of Britain’s most celebrated actresses, earning international fame through her work in theatre, film, and television.

A statement from her publicist, Claire Dobbs, added, “Maggie leaves behind two sons and five beloved grandchildren, who are deeply saddened by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother.”

Smith had long been regarded as one of the finest British actresses of her generation, alongside iconic names like Vanessa Redgrave and Judi Dench. Her illustrious career was marked by numerous Oscar nominations and a collection of awards. She is particularly remembered for her role as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the “Harry Potter” series.
