The director of the Oran International Arab Film Festival, Abdelkader Jeriou, has announced that the 12th edition of the festival, set to take place from October 4 to 10, is making a strong comeback with a distinctive program.

During a press conference, Jeriou emphasized that the event serves as a vital platform for Arab filmmakers, offering them a space to exchange ideas and engage in cinematic dialogue. He credited the Minister of Culture and Arts, Soraya Mouloudji, for her efforts in reviving this significant festival, which holds both Arab and global importance, following a six-year hiatus. With this revival, Oran is once again poised to become the capital of Arab cinema.

Jeriou also revealed that 60 films have been selected from a pool of 400 entries submitted via the festival’s digital platform to compete for the prestigious Golden and Silver Wihr awards in this 12th edition. The selected films include 11 feature films, 14 short films, 8 short documentaries, and 10 long documentaries.

In a special segment, 22 Palestinian films under the theme “Gaza, Point Zero” will be screened on October 7, marking the first anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Flood and showing solidarity with the Palestinian people.
