Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments Signs Anti-Corruption Agreement

The Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments has entered into a framework agreement with the High Authority for Transparency, Prevention of Corruption, and its Combat. This agreement aims to enhance coordination and cooperation in line with the national strategy for corruption prevention and combat. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, and the President of the High Authority, Salima Mesrati, according to a ministry statement yesterday.

Under this agreement, both parties commit to activating their collaboration and establishing partnership rules, particularly through intensified awareness efforts in the field of corruption prevention and promoting values of integrity and transparency in line with Islamic Sharia.

It also includes organizing training courses and improving capabilities related to corruption prevention and combat. The ministry commits to utilizing its structures, including organizing training sessions and awareness days in this field.

Following the signing, Minister Belmehdi emphasized that this agreement aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s program for ethical social life, from which the national anti-corruption strategy emerged.

Belmehdi expressed his dedication to employing all the ministry’s structures, including mosques and Quranic schools, and prioritizing anti-corruption in religious discourse. He called for the importance of “raising community awareness and coordinating efforts to combat this negative phenomenon.”

On her part, Mesrati acknowledged the vital role of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments in “spreading a culture of rejecting corruption, educating society, and raising awareness about the dangers of this phenomenon that is being fought at all levels.”
