Algeria and Norway Strengthen Strategic Energy Cooperation

Algeria and Norway reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their long-standing partnership in the energy sector, during a meeting held in Algiers between Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, and Snorre Eriksen Schjervak, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Norway.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided an opportunity to review the current state of cooperation between the two countries. Discussions focused mainly on key energy-related fields, including hydrocarbons, renewable energies, and the energy transition.

Both Algeria and Norway occupy an important position in the global energy landscape. Their experience, resources, and strategic location allow them to play a vital role in supporting international energy security, particularly in supplying the European market with its energy needs.

The two sides also underlined the importance of giving new momentum to bilateral cooperation. In this regard, they emphasized the need to encourage direct investment and to make better use of the advantages offered by Algeria’s business climate, especially the incentives available to foreign economic operators.

This meeting reflects the shared will of Algeria and Norway to deepen their partnership beyond traditional energy cooperation. It also highlights the growing importance of balanced, reliable, and forward-looking energy relations at a time when global markets are facing major geopolitical and economic challenges.

Through this renewed dialogue, Algeria confirms its ambition to remain a key energy partner, while also opening wider opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy, technological exchange, and sustainable investment.
