Algeria Sets One-Month Deadline for Digital Integration and Introduces Bank Card Travel Allowance

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a Council of Ministers meeting on Sunday, July 12, 2026, devoted to the national digital services portal, cooperation projects with Niger and Chad, the startup ecosystem and the development of Algeria’s tourism sector.
Regarding digital transformation, President Tebboune set a maximum deadline of one month to achieve full intersectoral data connectivity through the National Data Center. The measure is intended to make digital public services easier and more accessible for citizens.
The President called for greater efforts to accelerate the expansion of online services, particularly following the successful launch of the National Data Center, which forms a central part of Algeria’s digital transformation and sovereignty strategy.
The meeting also reviewed bilateral cooperation agreements with Niger and Chad. President Tebboune emphasized the need to implement the agreed projects quickly, especially those concerning electricity production for the benefit of citizens in both countries.
He instructed the Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs to supervise an intersectoral committee responsible for monitoring progress on the ground and ensuring that projects are completed within the established deadlines.
Concerning the travel allowance, the Council of Ministers temporarily decided that it would be obtained through a bank card rather than issued in cash. The decision followed reports of serious abuses that caused losses of foreign currency without the intended beneficiaries receiving the allowance.
President Tebboune also praised Algeria’s achievements in supporting startups, saying the national model has attracted growing interest from African and international partners. He called for private-sector participation in financing startup projects, particularly in high-demand fields.
In tourism, the President instructed the Minister of Tourism to prepare a comprehensive action plan promoting domestic tourism for Algerian families, particularly coastal tourism, while strengthening specialized training in coastal, mountain and desert tourism.
He also ordered preparations for a twinning agreement between Tipaza and the US city of Kansas City, in recognition of the warm welcome given to Algeria’s official delegation and supporters during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
