Les Vertes Target CAN 2026 Third Place Medal

The Algerian women's national football team, known as Les Vertes, is preparing to face Morocco this evening at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, with a bronze medal at stake in the CAN 2026 tournament. This crucial encounter offers the national selection a significant opportunity to secure a podium finish, adding to an already historic journey that saw them reach the semi-finals for the first time and achieve an unprecedented qualification for the 2027 World Cup. A third-place victory would serve as a fitting culmination to an exceptional continental competition.

This upcoming match holds particular significance as it marks a rematch between the two teams, who previously met in the group stages on July 30. The earlier fixture, which saw Morocco win 1-0, has set the stage for Les Vertes to seek a positive outcome, aiming not only for a podium spot but also to conclude their continental campaign with a sense of accomplishment. The team's determination to cap their impressive tournament run is a key motivator for this classification game.

Coach Farid Benstiti is expected to strategically manage his squad, potentially providing more playing time to some players who have been less involved earlier in the competition, such as Lana Smits Ouraghi and Wassila Alouache. This approach aims to further strengthen the team's cohesion and develop their game. The Algerian team's familiarity with the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, where they will play their fourth match, could also serve as a valuable advantage, potentially balancing the influence of the home crowd.
