Sonatrach, Pertamina Invest $800 Million in Menzel Ledjmet Field

Algerian public energy company Sonatrach and Indonesian national company Pertamina are jointly investing over $800 million into the Menzel Ledjmet Nord (MLN) field, located within Block 405a. This substantial investment is designated for the fifth phase of the field's development, positioning it as a pivotal initiative for enhancing Algeria's gas and oil resource valorization. The strategic alliance, which also includes Spanish firm Repsol, operates under a 25-year hydrocarbons contract, established within the framework of Law 19-13.

The primary objective of this development program is to maximize the recovery of the field's estimated 150 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) reserves. Situated in the Berkine basin, approximately 275 kilometers southeast of Hassi Messaoud, the Menzel Ledjmet field is an operational cornerstone. Current activities on Block 405a yield an annual production of around 2.11 billion cubic meters of gas and 5.37 million barrels of crude oil. The project also highlights a strong industrial safety record, having achieved over 25.6 million hours worked without a reported incident.

Beyond extraction, the collaboration between Sonatrach and Pertamina extends across the entire commercial supply chain. Through dedicated shipping service contracts, the partnership facilitates the transport of crude oil, condensates, and liquefied petroleum gas (GPL) utilizing Algeria's robust port infrastructure. This comprehensive industrial integration solidifies Sonatrach's position as a significant logistical hub in North Africa and significantly strengthens Algeria's overall capacity to diversify its energy offerings and ensure stable supplies to both international and European markets.
