Citizen-Led Solidarity Rises for Jijel Fire Victims

A vast and spontaneous national solidarity movement has rapidly mobilized across Algeria, providing extensive support to the wilaya of Jijel and other areas affected by recent forest fires. This exceptionally rapid and coordinated chain of national fraternity underscores the profound symbiosis of the Algerian people in the face of major catastrophes, echoing similar collective efforts observed during previous incidents.

The intense heat of recent days led to over 150 fire outbreaks nationwide, resulting in thousands of hectares of vegetation destroyed and 16 victims reported across Tizi-Ouzou, Béjaïa, and Jijel. Public authorities responded immediately under the leadership of Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb and upon instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. A high-level delegation, including the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Transport, visited the affected areas to express the solidarity of state authorities and coordinate emergency relief efforts.

Jijel wilaya, particularly impacted by the blazes, has become the focal point of this national outpouring of support. Digital platforms, such as the social media page «Jijel Solidarité», have facilitated widespread appeals for mutual aid. Citizens across the nation are contributing a diverse range of assistance, from financial donations to essential supplies including clothing, water, and blankets, collectively demonstrating a unified national response to the adversity.
