China-Africa Cooperation Forum 2024: Leaders Pledge to Jointly Advance Modernization

During the high-level meeting of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), held last Thursday, leaders emphasized their commitment to advancing modernization processes in both China and African nations.

The meeting, co-chaired by Wang Huning, Chairman of China’s National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, focused on industrialization and agricultural modernization. Wang stressed that China and African countries should pursue industrial and agricultural modernization tailored to their national conditions while promoting fair and equitable global governance.

Wang highlighted China’s willingness to continue working with African countries to enhance industrial cooperation and strengthen communication and collaboration across industry and supply chains. He also mentioned China’s readiness to establish economic partnership agreements with African nations, aiming to create a shared model for implementing the Global Development Initiative.

Wang further emphasized China’s commitment to poverty reduction, job creation, income generation, and improving livelihoods in Africa. He noted that China would continue supplying African nations with new energy technologies and products, supporting the continent’s energy transition, and enhancing sustainability to combat climate change.

African leaders praised the achievements of China-Africa cooperation, particularly in industrialization, agricultural modernization, and green development. They expressed their eagerness to explore modernization pathways that align with their national characteristics and lead the Global South in advancing development.
