In a significant move towards bolstering media collaborations, MBC Group, a major Middle-Eastern broadcasting corporation, has expressed its interest in establishing a new office in Algeria. This development was announced following a meeting between Algeria’s Minister of Communication, Mr. Mohammed Laqab, and MBC’s top executives, including its CEO Ali Hazaifi, Executive Director Sam Barnat, and other key members like Ali Jaber, Abdul Ghani Waali, and Mohammed Omar Dhahbi.

Highlighting a New Era in Algerian Media

MBC’s initiative is not just limited to opening an office; the broadcasting titan has outlined a broad vision of enhancing its partnership with Algeria. They’ve proposed launching subscriptions via the “Shahid” platform and producing a spectrum of content ranging from news, sports, culture, to Algerian movies and series. The ambitious plan aims to collaborate with local Algerian directors, actors, and scriptwriters.

Minister Laqab warmly received these proposals and showcased his full readiness to support MBC’s expansion endeavors. He emphasized the commitment to eliminating potential obstacles and facilitating the production process, especially for historical Algerian films. This would involve coordination with the Ministry of Mujahideen, the Ministry of Rights Holders, and the Ministry of Culture and Arts.

Strengthened Ties Between Saudi and Algerian Broadcast Media

Mr. Laqab reaffirmed the Algerian government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth operation for Saudi-based channels, like MBC and Al Arabiya Al Hadath, in alignment with Algeria’s organic media law.

With such collaborative ventures on the horizon, the media landscape in Algeria is set for a transformative phase, promising enriched content and fostering a deeper connection between the Middle-Eastern countries.
