Algeria Assumes an Important UN Position

Algeria, represented by its Permanent Representative in Vienna, Ambassador Arabi Lattroch, was unanimously elected as the Vice President of the 20th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), held in the Austrian capital from November 27 to December 1. According to the national radio, Algeria’s vice presidency of the UNIDO conference on behalf of the African group is a continuation of the dynamism in Algerian diplomacy at both regional and international levels under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

As the Vice President of the session, Ambassador Lattroch chaired the conference sessions last Wednesday, which focused on the theme “Fair Globalization: Innovative Solutions for Future Industries.”

In his earlier intervention at the general debate as the head of the Algerian delegation, Ambassador Lattroch emphasized that industrial development in Algeria is a national objective and a strategic choice, being a fundamental lever in building a productive economic project.

Moreover, the Algerian delegation informed the conference participants about efforts to enhance the national legal arsenal to integrate the climate dimension into various public developmental policies, in line with Algeria’s international commitments and pledges.

In this context, he mentioned the establishment of the Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency Authority, aiming to ensure harmony among sectors for developing renewable energies in Algeria, such as green hydrogen.

On the continental level, the Algerian delegation welcomed UNIDO’s new strategy for Africa 2023-2025, urging the organization’s Director-General to “expedite the development of pioneering programs that meet the needs and aspirations of the continent in the future.”
