WhatsApp Update for High-Quality Photo and Video Sharing

dzwatch

WhatsApp is launching a significant update for its iOS users, enabling them to share photos and videos in their original quality. This marks a departure from the app’s previous approach of compressing multimedia content. Even with high-quality additions to its compression algorithm introduced in August of the previous year, WhatsApp used to reduce the quality of media files. The new update, however, treats media files like data files, similar to other documents, which means they will not be compressed when sent.

Users will need to take an active step to send uncompressed images and videos by selecting the “+” icon. WhatsApp has announced that the rollout of this feature will be gradual, suggesting it might take some time before it becomes available to all users worldwide.

Regarding Android users, the company is reportedly working on this update, but there is no confirmed release date yet. This update is part of a series of new features Meta has introduced to WhatsApp this year, including a Mac OS-specific video call feature, AI-generated stickers, and self-destructing voice messages.
