Arab Metals Company: From Startup to Industrial Powerhouse Slashing Algeria’s Import Bill

Egyptian firm Arab Metals Company continues to solidify its footprint in Algeria’s national market through ambitious expansion projects aimed at developing local copper and aluminium industries — a success story reflecting the growing confidence of foreign investors in Algeria’s business climate.

Since entering the Algerian market in 2012, the non-ferrous metals specialist has steadily expanded its production capacities. The company now covers a significant share of national demand for copper wires, rods, and alloys used in electrical cables, telephone infrastructure, and electrical panels.

This industrial growth has enabled Algeria to cut its import bill by approximately $100 million annually through local substitution.

In 2024, the company launched a new facility in the Oued Harbil industrial zone in Médéa Province, which became operational in March 2026 with an annual capacity of 32,000 tonnes of copper wires, sheets, alloys, brass rods, and fittings.

Looking ahead, the firm is developing an aluminium rod production project targeting both domestic supply and future exports, alongside a planned automotive and motorcycle parts manufacturing unit on a 1.6-hectare plot in Médéa.
