Riyad Mahrez Ranked 21st in FIFA’s New Power Rankings at 2026 World Cup

Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez has been ranked 21st in FIFA’s newly introduced individual Power Rankings, a player performance evaluation system launched during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Developed by FIFA in partnership with global energy company Aramco, the new ranking system uses advanced match data collected throughout the tournament to provide an objective assessment of individual player performances. Outfield players are rated on a scale of 0 to 10 across three categories—attacking, creativity, and defending—while goalkeepers are evaluated based on their ball control and shot-stopping abilities.

Mahrez earned high marks following Algeria’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Austria in their final Group Stage match, in which he scored twice. His performance received ratings of 6.46 for attacking, 6.00 for creativity, and 4.90 for defending.

After each round of the tournament, FIFA updates the rankings, publishing the top 100 players in each category as well as an overall leaderboard that is refreshed after every match.

The FIFA Power Rankings are designed to measure player performances throughout the tournament, with every appearance contributing to an individual’s overall score and cumulative tournament rating.

Following the conclusion of the group stage, Germany forward Deniz Undav tops the overall rankings, ahead of Argentina’s Lionel Messi and France’s Kylian Mbappé.
