Minister of Transport, Mohamed Habib Zahane, emphasized the need to double efforts at ports to enhance their productivity.

Zahane, in a press statement on Saturday during a working visit to the province of Jijel, asserted that “we are now required to reorganize the frameworks and management style at the ports.”

He stated, “We must improve the efficiency of our services, distancing ourselves from lethargy, which has no place among us, and all ports will be under scrutiny.”

The minister revealed that he had directed port officials regarding the duration of loading and unloading operations, the time required for security procedures related to containers, and the duration of visits, stressing the importance of improving the quality of these services to meet international standards.

During his speech, Zahane noted that the expansion works at Jijel Port are progressing well, with the first phase of the new dock expected to be completed by the end of June next year.

The minister mentioned that the expansion of Jijel Port will increase its capacity to accommodate large ships.
