Ministry Declares August 25, 2026, Paid Public Holiday for Mawlid Ennabaoui

Algeria has officially declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a paid public holiday for all workers nationwide in observance of Mawlid Ennabaoui Echarif. This announcement came through a joint communiqué issued by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security and the General Directorate of Public Service and Administrative Reform.

The directive applies comprehensively to all personnel within public institutions and administrations, public and private organizations and offices, as well as employees across both public and private sector companies. The legal framework for this paid holiday is established by Law n°63-278 of July 26, 1963, pertaining to the list of legal holidays, as amended and supplemented. This ensures that all eligible workers, including those paid on a daily or hourly basis, will receive a remunerated day off.

Mawlid Ennabaoui Echarif, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Mohammed, is a recognized legal holiday in Algeria. The specified date of August 25, 2026, corresponds to the 12th day of Rabie El Aouel in the Hijri calendar, 1448. While the holiday grants a day of rest, relevant administrations, organizations, offices, and companies are required to implement necessary measures to guarantee service continuity in structures operating under a permanent or rotational system. Essential services, whose activities cannot be interrupted, are expected to maintain their operations as usual to cater to users during this public holiday.
