Slovenia Welcomes Algeria as AGRA 2026 Guest of Honor

Algeria is participating as the guest of honor at the AGRA 2026 International Agriculture and Food Industry Fair in Gornja Radgona, Slovenia. Representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Baddari, conveyed the President's greetings to the Slovenian people and government. The Algerian presence at this international event, which runs from August 22 to 26, 2026, aims to highlight the excellence and diversity of Algerian agricultural and agro-food products within European markets and to forge investment partnerships with Slovenia.

Minister Baddari emphasized that Slovenia serves as a vital commercial hub for Algerian products and a gateway to Central European markets, just as Algeria presents a promising investment landscape and a primary entry point for Slovenia into the African continent. This participation reflects the strong bilateral relationship between Algeria and Slovenia, underscoring both nations' commitment to enhancing cooperation and partnership. The Slovenian President visited the Algerian pavilion, where the National Chamber of Agriculture, part of a high-level Algerian delegation, is showcasing competitive agricultural products, including dates, premium olive oil, citrus fruits, vegetables, fruits, and processed industrial goods, to expand their presence in European and Balkan markets.

Algeria is actively implementing profound structural reforms to modernize its agricultural sector under the leadership of President Tebboune. These reforms include extensive land reclamation initiatives in the South and High Plateaus, along with the expansion of irrigated areas, all central to the national agricultural strategy. The country is also integrating academic research, scientific innovation, and artificial intelligence to cultivate precise, sustainable, technology-driven agriculture. Minister Baddari reiterated Algeria's firm belief that achieving food sovereignty and security is an imperative for national security and strategic independence, advocating for increased joint investments in agriculture and modern technologies while emphasizing the critical role of international cooperation.
