The Algerian Radio, in coordination with the National Independent Authority for Elections, organized a training day for directors of national and regional radio channels titled “Legal and Professional Guidelines in Election Coverage” today, Saturday, in Algiers.

In his speech on the occasion, Mohamed Baghali, the General Director of Algerian Radio, stated that this initiative aligns with the important upcoming event of the presidential elections scheduled for September 7. Baghali emphasized that such meetings for exchanging ideas can ensure quality participation in covering this significant event.

Kareem Khalfan, a member of the National Independent Authority for Elections, provided a legal briefing on the guidelines governing media practices during such events. He highlighted the crucial role of the press as an accompaniment to the electoral process from the calling of the electoral body to the announcement of the final results.

Khalfan added that journalists act as a “link between all parties, including the National Independent Authority for Elections, candidates, voters, civil society, and various institutions, which gives them an important role that must be carried out in accordance with legal and professional guidelines.”

He also referred to the amendments introduced by the 2020 Constitution, particularly regarding “freedom of expression, press freedom, and access to information sources,” while emphasizing the need for professionalism and adherence to ethical standards in media coverage of this event.
