The Third National Book Fair was inaugurated this Saturday afternoon at the Malek Haddad Cultural Center in Constantine, with the participation of 60 publishers. This cultural event is part of the national strategy aimed at promoting reading and literature through organizing a series of meetings and other literary exhibitions, as confirmed by the event organizers.

In a speech by the Minister of Culture and Arts, Mrs. Soraya Mouloudji, delivered by her representative Mr. Tijani Tama, Director of Books and Public Reading at the ministry, the emphasis was placed on the importance of “enhancing the book industry, from publication to distribution, ensuring that books reach the readers while fostering creativity.”

The minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to “reviving the culture of reading and restoring the book’s status.” She highlighted the ongoing efforts in this area, including support for publishers and authors, organizing large-scale book distribution events, and creating platforms such as the Book Forum.

Mrs. Mouloudji also underlined the significant role of Constantine, regarded as the “beacon of knowledge and sciences in Algeria.” She stressed that books represent the “face of national cultural heritage,” and it is crucial to give them the attention they deserve, as they are essential to the growth and prosperity of nations.

The event, which will continue until September 28 under the theme “Constantine, Gateway to Civilization,” features over 16,000 titles and approximately 40 activities, including seminars, theater performances, training workshops, and book signing sessions by well-known intellectuals from various regions of the country, according to event spokesperson Hicham Mohieddine.

In addition, the fair, which is part of the 2024 cultural agenda approved by the Ministry of Culture and Arts, includes a special space for children and students to engage in various activities.
