Algiers – From November 26 to December 7, the Palace of Culture Moufdi Zakaria in Algiers will host the 8th edition of the International Contemporary Art Festival, featuring professional visual artists from 38 countries, with Palestine as the guest of honor.
Under the theme “For a New Legacy,” the event will showcase the works of 70 artists, including participants from Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Mauritania, Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Italy, Russia, and the United States.
Palestinian Representation and Art of Resistance
Palestinian artists will play a significant role in the festival, presenting works that explore the Palestinian cause and the resistance of their people. A special session titled “Art of Palestinian Resistance” will be held, featuring renowned Palestinian artists such as Steve Sabella, Tayseer Barakat, Hani Zurob, Raafat Asad, Areen Hassan, and Bashar Alhroub.
Hamza Bounoua, the festival’s curator, emphasized Algeria’s consistent support for the Palestinian struggle, noting that the country extends its solidarity through both politics and cultural initiatives.
Honoring Algerian Artists
The festival will also pay tribute to late Algerian artists, presenting special collections by renowned names such as Baya, Arzouki Larbi, Salah Hiyon, Djamel Larouk, and Kamal Nizar.
Forums, Workshops, and Exhibitions
On the sidelines of the main exhibition, artists from around the world will exchange experiences in a dedicated forum. The program includes thematic discussions on art publishing, the economics of the arts, and the growing role of digital art platforms. These activities will take place at the Ahmed and Rabah Asselah Higher School of Fine Arts in Algiers.
