In a strategic move to bolster cooperation within the African petroleum sector, the Algerian Petroleum Institute, an affiliate of Sonatrach, has signed four partnership agreements focused on training with various African oil companies under the umbrella of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO). This landmark event took place on Thursday and represents a significant step in Algeria’s ongoing commitment to enhancing collaboration and expertise within the African oil and gas industry.
The agreements were signed with the National Petroleum Company (SNPC) of the Republic of Congo, SONAHYDROC from the Democratic Republic of Congo, the National Fuel Company of Benin, and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) of Ghana. These partnerships underscore Algeria’s dedication to fostering strong relationships across the continent, enhancing the skill set within the industry, and promoting sustainable practices in the African oil and gas sector.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Algerian Petroleum Institute to formalize training operations that it had previously launched with other petroleum companies from member countries of APPO. The agreements were finalized on the sidelines of the 5th meeting of CEOs of National Oil Companies of APPO member countries, led by Rashid Hachichi, CEO of Sonatrach, in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo.
The meeting served as a platform for discussing various aspects of cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, including financing of oil and gas projects, infrastructure, regional markets, local content development, human capital enhancement, technology, research and development, and potential collaboration in renewable energy.
It’s noteworthy that Sonatrach had previously hosted the 4th session of this meeting on March 21, 2023, in Algiers, reflecting Algeria’s pivotal role in shaping the future of the African oil and gas industry.
