Algerian national team coach, Jamal Belmadi, has deemed the training camp in Togo as an invaluable international friendly tournament, beneficial in all aspects. Expressing satisfaction with this preparatory stage, Belmadi highlighted the importance of the camp for the team’s development.

He noted that his squad played two matches and underwent several training sessions under intense heat and high humidity, conditions sought after for acclimatization to the climate similar to that of Côte d’Ivoire, the host country of AFCON 2024. Belmadi found the match against Burundi particularly fruitful, despite the challenges posed by their defense strategy and proficiency in set-pieces.

Belmadi praised his players for their ball possession and management against Burundi, while emphasizing the need for better utilization of scoring opportunities. He candidly mentioned that more goals could have been scored in this second and final friendly match.

The return of the duo “Bounedjah-Belaïli” was seen as extremely positive by Belmadi, who also pointed out that Riyad Mahrez’s goal came from coordination and preparation with his teammates Bounedjah and Belaïli. He also approved the substitutions made in the second half against Burundi, noting that the reserve players proved they are also worthy of starting positions.

Belmadi mentioned that the decision not to start striker Mohamed Amin Amoura against the Togolese locals and the senior Burundi team was due to his absence in the first match against Angola in the Ivorian AFCON.

This detailed reflection by Belmadi underscores the Algerian team’s strategic preparation for the upcoming AFCON, highlighting both the strengths and areas for improvement identified during the Togo training camp.
