Algerian Culture Minister Begins Official Visit to Switzerland for WIPO General Assembly

Minister of Culture and Arts Malika Bendouda is set to begin an official visit to Switzerland from July 6 to 9, 2026, to take part in the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, Bendouda will join several ministers, senior officials and decision-makers from different countries to discuss current issues and future prospects related to intellectual property, cultural and creative industries, and development based on knowledge and innovation.

This participation represents an opportunity to strengthen Algeria’s presence in international discussions on the protection of cultural heritage and intellectual property. It will also allow Algeria to present the efforts made by the state to preserve and promote its national tangible and intangible heritage.

The visit will also highlight Algeria’s work in protecting traditional knowledge and cultural symbols, in a way that reinforces the country’s legitimate rights and strengthens its position within the international intellectual property system.

The ministry noted that this participation carries particular importance, as Algeria was selected among a limited number of countries to take part with a national pavilion in the official events accompanying the opening ceremony of the General Assembly. This choice reflects Algeria’s growing status on the international stage and recognizes the richness and diversity of its civilizational and cultural heritage.

The national pavilion has been prepared according to an integrated strategic vision. It aims to reflect the authenticity of Algeria’s national identity, its deep civilizational roots and the richness of its tangible and intangible cultural heritage. It will also showcase Algeria’s creative potential and present a modern and bright image of the country in international forums.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, the minister is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with ministers, senior officials and representatives of international organizations. These talks will focus on cooperation, exchange of expertise and partnerships in cultural heritage protection, intellectual property and creative industries.
