Opel Germany Delegation Discusses Automotive Industry Development in Algeria

The President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council, Kamel Moula, received yesterday a delegation from Opel Germany, as part of discussions focused on accelerating the development of the automotive industry in Algeria.

The German delegation included Opel’s global Chief Executive Officer, Florian Huettl, and the Chairman of the Board, Xavier Chéreau. The meeting reflected the growing interest in strengthening industrial cooperation and exploring new opportunities in the Algerian automotive market.

According to a statement issued by the Algerian Economic Renewal Council, known as CREA, the visit mainly focused on ways to speed up the development of car manufacturing activities in Algeria. Particular attention was given to the importance of building a stronger industrial subcontracting base, which remains an essential element for creating a sustainable and competitive automotive sector.

The discussions also addressed the future prospects of the Opel brand in Algeria. Both sides examined possible areas of development, especially in relation to market expansion, industrial integration and the role that local partners could play in supporting the brand’s presence in the country.

The meeting comes at a time when Algeria is seeking to strengthen its industrial base and encourage productive investment in strategic sectors. The automotive industry is considered one of the key areas that can contribute to economic diversification, job creation and technology transfer.

By developing subcontracting networks and encouraging cooperation with international manufacturers, Algeria aims to move beyond simple import activity and build a more integrated industrial ecosystem.

The visit of Opel Germany’s senior executives highlights the potential of the Algerian market and the importance of partnership between local economic actors and global automotive companies. It also opens the door to further discussions on concrete projects that could support the future development of the automotive industry in Algeria.
