Today, Tuesday, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youssef Sharfa, commenced a working visit to the state of Bouira, where he will officially launch the 2023/2024 harvest and threshing campaign in the northern states of the country.

The ministry’s statement explained that the minister will lay the foundation stone for the construction of six local grain storage centers out of the eight centers allocated to this agriculturally significant state.

These facilities are part of the national program aimed at enhancing grain storage capacities across 52 states, which includes the construction of 350 local centers with a total capacity of 1.75 million tons of grain, and 30 strategic storage silos with a total storage capacity of 3 million tons.

Additionally, the completion of 16 strategic metal storage silos with a total storage capacity of 250,000 tons is underway.

Minister Sharfa will also inspect agricultural investments in the state, including a visit to one of the agricultural production units (formerly a model farm) now aimed at developing strategic crops according to the new agricultural sector orientations, following the decisions of the Cabinet meeting held on February 18, 2024.

It is worth noting that the model farms have been restructured to become state-owned agricultural production units specialized in the production and development of strategic crops (legumes, seed intensification, oil crops, and resistant trees).

In this context, the Agricultural Products Valorization Complex (GVAPRO) has been restructured to become a public economic institution responsible for developing strategic agricultural crops.
