Professional Transport Operators Face Penalties Without Certification

Algeria has implemented new measures to regulate professional transport activities, introducing criminal sanctions for operators found working without a required professional qualification certificate. These regulations stipulate that individuals engaged in the transport of people or goods must possess this mandatory document, in addition to a driver's license, to ensure adherence to professional standards. Non-compliance can lead to significant penalties, including imprisonment.

The new framework mandates a prison sentence ranging from one to two years, alongside a fine between 100,000 and 200,000 Algerian Dinars, for those found operating without the necessary professional certification. These provisions underscore the particular responsibility inherent in the transport sector regarding road safety. The primary objective of the professional qualification certificate is to guarantee that drivers possess the essential skills and competencies required to transport passengers or merchandise under secure conditions.

Authorities are implementing these requirements to further frame professional transport activities and ensure a sufficient level of qualification among drivers, thereby enhancing overall safety for passengers and other road users. This regulatory instrument is applicable to various forms of professional transport, aiming to elevate standards across the sector. Professionals in the field are therefore encouraged to verify their administrative standing and confirm they hold all necessary documents and qualifications before undertaking any transport activity subject to this obligation.
